Rapid screening methods of harmful chemicals in textiles

Speaker at Chemistry World Conference 2026 - Lili Sun

Title : Rapid screening methods of harmful chemicals in textiles

Abstract:

The detection rate of harmful chemicals in textiles is usually less than 1%. However, the testing process consumes a large number of reagent and consumables, which produces a large amount of waste to pollute the environment. Moreover, the test period is long and the cost is high. This project focuses on the toxic and harmful chemicals in the national mandatory standard GB 18401-2010 "National Basic Safety Technical Specifications for Textile Products", GB 31701-2015 "Safety Technical Specifications for Infant and Children's Textile Products" and GB/T 14272-2021 "Down Clothing". We have developed a series of rapid screening methods and colored products for harmful substances such as formaldehyde, azo, lead, cadmium, APEO, and so on. These rapid screening products can be used for internal quality control of large textile manufacturers, and form a supplementary verification scheme for existing standards to ensure the accuracy of the results. This presentation will elaborate on the developing process of these rapid screening methods. Moreover, it will provide the usage of the screening products and the advantage compared with the existing methods. Our products are unique, which has not been reported all around the world.

Biography:

She is proficient in computer simulation research prior to joining a company in China. During her doctoral studies, she studied chemical reaction mechanisms, thermochemistry, and optical properties using quantum chemistry. During her postdoctoral studies, she investigated the interactions of biomolecules using molecular dynamics simulations and the umbrella sampling technique. After joining a company in China in 2020, she has been engaged in developing new methods for detecting harmful chemicals in textiles. Her research interests include molecular simulation and chemical analysis. Due to the product-oriented nature of her current work, she has not published the related research in scientific journals.
